Hi there! The ferris wheel is made of gumpaste - I secured a bamboo skewer to the back of it, and stuck the skewer into the cake once the ferris wheel had dried (took about 2 days to fully dry and harden). Let me know if you have any other questions! :)
Thank you so much for your help!!! Do you think I could push the skewer into the middle of the gum paste??? Would it hold??? Also wat size cake tis are they! It just looks awesome! I can't join the page on iPad I have to do it anonymous? Not sure why!!
I wouldn't try pushing it into the middle of the gumpaste - you would have to make the wheel super thick, and it would take a LONG time to dry and be sturdy enough to stand up on it's own. I just turned the wheel over, placed the skewer, and then put a thin layer of gumpaste over the skewer, glueing it to the back of the wheel. It dries overnight this way. Does that make sense? This cake is a 10 and 6 inch tiers. :)
No problem! The skewers I'm talking about are the kind used for k-bobs. Lol. Yeah, the wheel is only about 1/8 inch thick. You could try using a popsicle stick...that's another option. :) Good luck! And thanks so much for your kind words! :)
Hi rachel... was wondering how you got the ferris wheel to stand up and be sturdy? Is it all icing? Any tips???

ReplyDeleteAwesome thanks for your help! I was picturing a skewer on show?! So the wheel is quite thin? Your cakes all look amazing by the way!

ReplyDeleteHi, I like this cake especially the ferris wheel, thank you for sharing your ideas.
ReplyDeleteHi Rachel how many 10 in and 6 in tiers are there?
ReplyDeleteIt's just one 10 inch tier, with a 6 inch tier on top. Each tier has 2 layers of cake with filling in between. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't get how you connected the skewer to the wheel? Is the wheel sitting on the skewer?
ReplyDeleteI attached it to the back of the ferris wheel, and used a strip of fondant to "glue" the skewer to the wheel. Hope that makes sense!
